Mr. Twigg received his Bachelor of Science in Music Education as well as a Master of Music in Percussion Performance from the University of Maryland, College Park. While there he was a private student of Ronald Barnett (Kennedy Center Opera House Orchestra).
While at Maryland Mr. Twigg was the first chair percussionist in the Symphonic Wind Ensemble under the baton of John Wakefield and the drumline captain of the Mighty Sound of Maryland Marching Band under Dr. L. Richmond Sparks. He studied in the Jazz Band under jazz legend Chris Vadala and was principal percussionist of the Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Dr. William Hudson. He was also a founding member of the New Dark Age Ensemble, a percussion group in the Washington D.C. area.
As a freelance percussionist he has performed in every major venue in the Washington-Baltimore area. He has played under some of the great conductors of our time, including Marin Alsop of the Baltimore Symphony, noted Russian conductor Yuri Temirkanov and legendary performer, conductor and personality Victor Borge.
Prior to Fulton Elementary School, Mr. Twigg had a massively successful career as the Director of Bands at Patuxent Valley Middle School in Howard County, MD. Under his baton the bands tripled in enrollment and received top honors at festivals in Maryland, Pennsylvania and Virginia.
He currently resides in Sykesville with his wife Margaret (Director of Band and Strings, Rockburn Elementary School), twin daughters Julia and Emily and their dog Taffy. Mr. Twigg also keeps very busy as a professional photographer. His hobbies include exercise and struggling to keep up with his twins.
